Global Risks Report 2025

The World Economic Forum have published the Global Risks Report 2025.

The report is a vital tool for understanding global risks and highlights the need for collaboration to tackle these complex challenges.

The report highlights significant challenges anticipated in the near and long term:

Short-Term Risks (Next 2 Years):

State-Based Armed Conflict: Nearly 25% of experts identify wars and terrorism as the most pressing threat to economic growth in 2025, marking a shift from previous years.

Extreme Weather Events: Following the hottest year on record in 2024, environmental concerns remain paramount, with extreme weather ranked as the second most severe risk.

Misinformation and Disinformation: For the second consecutive year, the spread of false information is highlighted as a major risk, exacerbating societal divisions and undermining trust.

Long-Term Risks (Next 10 Years):

Environmental Threats: Climate-related issues dominate long-term concerns, with extreme weather, biodiversity loss, critical changes to Earth’s systems, and natural resource shortages topping the list.

Geopolitical and Economic Landscape:

The report underscores a fragmented global order, with 64% of respondents anticipating a multipolar world characterised by deepening divides and escalating tensions.

Economic challenges are compounded by geopolitical conflicts, environmental crises, and the pervasive spread of misinformation, all contributing to global instability.
