IEMA Is Changing Its Name: Here’s What It Means For Our Learners
If you’re currently studying a course with us that’s accredited by IEMA – or have completed one recently – you’ll soon notice a change in name and branding.
From 17 July 2025, IEMA will officially become ISEP: the Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Professionals.
This update is part of a wider rebrand to reflect a broader focus on sustainability and the evolving nature of the profession. While the name is changing, the high standards, course quality, and professional recognition remain exactly the same.
Here’s everything you need to know as a learner.
Who is ISEP?
ISEP, formerly known as IEMA, is the global professional body setting the standard for sustainability and environmental knowledge, skills, and practice. The rebrand better reflects the work they do across all areas of sustainability – not just environmental management.
You’ll start to see the new name written in full as:
The Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Professionals (ISEP) – formerly known as IEMA
Will My Course Change?
No. If you’re studying one of our IEMA-approved courses, the content and structure remain exactly the same. The only thing changing is the course name and the branding.
For example:
- The IEMA Certificate in Environmental Management (PIEMA) will become the ISEP Certificate in Sustainability & Environmental Management (PISEP)
- The IEMA Foundation Certificate in Environmental Management (AIEMA) will become the ISEP Foundation Certificate in Sustainability & Environmental Management (AISEP)
- The IEMA Sustainability Skills for Managers course will become the ISEP Sustainability Skills for Managers
- The IEMA Sustainability Skills for the Workforce course will become the ISEP Sustainability Skills for the Workforce
- The IEMA Pathways to Net Zero will become ISEP Pathways to Net Zero
So, if you’ve already started (or even completed) your course, your learning and qualification will still be fully recognised – just under the new name.
What Happens to My Certificate?
If you complete your course on or after 8 January 2025, you’ll automatically receive a PDF certificate with the new ISEP branding – even before the public launch in July.
If you completed your course before that date, your certificate will remain valid under the IEMA name, but it won’t be reissued with the ISEP branding (as ISEP didn’t legally exist yet).
Printed ISEP certificates will be available to purchase through the ISEP website from 17 July 2025 onwards, for anyone eligible.
What About Post-Nominals (Letters After Your Name)?
If your course leads to membership, you’ll be eligible to use new ISEP post-nominals:
- AISEP – Associate Member (previously AIEMA)
- PISEP – Practitioner Member (previously PIEMA)
- MISEP – Full Member (previously MIEMA)
These should be used from 17 July 2025 onwards.
Do I Need to Do Anything?
No action is needed from you. We’re handling all the changes to course titles, materials, and branding on your behalf.
We’ll continue to offer the same high-quality courses, delivered under the new ISEP name. The qualifications you gain will carry the same weight, recognition, and value in your professional development and career.
Why is this a Good Thing?
The move from IEMA to ISEP reflects the growing importance of sustainability skills across all industries – not just in environmental roles. This change helps strengthen the identity of the profession and better supports you as a learner and future sustainability professional.
